Trauma Touch Therapy

Trauma is something that has an effect on all of us. The level of trauma can vary greatly due to the nature of the experience which causes the trauma. It can range from being a victim of a violent crime, an abusive relationship that may have lasted years, to people's words repeatedly putting you down. Trauma touches all and does not discriminate.  In the face of a traumatic event, many people experience dissociation. This is natural and can actually be a benefit. However, once the event or events has passed, we often get stuck in a dissociative way.  This dissociation creates a sense of "numbness" in oneself. The numbing unfortunately numbs everything out, even the good we may experience after a traumatic event. Trauma Touch Therapy helps to bridge gaps and integrate the pieces back together again.

During Trauma Touch Therapy sessions the therapist and client work together using a variety of tools which include touch (only if asked for and consented to by the client), movement, breath work, and play. These tools work together to keep the client present in the right here and now, allowing the client to begin to feel again. This is an opportunity for the client to return back to themselves no matter how long it has been since trauma stepped into their lives.

This work, however, should not be confused with talk therapy or psychotherapy. Trauma Touch Therapy is all body based work.
