What is Reiki?

Reiki, a holistic healing practice that promotes relaxation and balance, can be a powerful tool for managing emotions and alleviating stress. By channeling universal life force energy, Reiki helps to release blocked energy within the body allowing for a deeper sense of calm and emotional clarity. This meditative state not only assists individuals in navigating stressful situations more effectively but also enhances the efficacy of other emotional health strategies, such as therapy, mindfulness, and self care practices. As stress cycles are broken through regular Reiki sessions, individuals may find themselves better equipped to respond to challenges with grace and resilience, ultimately leading to improved well-being and enriched personal growth. Incorporating Reiki into one’s emotional health regimen can foster a harmonious internal environment, empowering individuals to thrive amidst life’s demands.

Types of Reiki

  • A Japanese form of energy healing, developed by Mikao Usui, that uses a gentle, hands-on technique to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and encourage healing. It is based on the theory of a universal life force energy called "ki" (or "chi"), which is channeled by a practitioner through their hands to a client to clear blockages and restore balance.

  • A modern form of Reiki that combines traditional Usui Reiki with a new, high-frequency spiritual energy called Holy Fire. It emphasizes creating a direct connection between the client and the healing energy, which is said to work more quickly and powerfully to promote healing, purification, and empowerment. The term "holy" is used in the sense of being whole, rather than having religious meaning, and the practice is open to all belief systems.

  • There are as many as 30 types of Reiki that have been developed. Some other types include Karuna Reiki, Shamanic Reiki, Tibetan Reiki and Kundalini Reiki. There are also specialized applications that combine Crystals, Sound Healing, and Distance Reiki.

Balancing the Chakras

It’s important to keep the chakras balanced for overall well-being. Techniques like meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, and energy healing can help maintain harmony among the chakras.

The Stress Cycle.

The cycle of stress involves a complex interaction between physical and emotional responses. Understanding this cycle can help in managing stress more effectively. Here’s a breakdown of how stress operates both physically and emotionally.

1. Triggering Event

Physical Stressors can include injury, illness, or lack of sleep while some emotional stressors can include things like work pressure, relationship issues, or financial concerns.

2. Perception of Stress

Individuals assess the situation, which can lead to feelings of anxiety, fear, or overwhelm. The body reacts through the nervous system which creates a physical response (“fight or flight”).

3. Changes & Reactions

This response can lead to physical symptoms (increase heart rate, muscle tension, shallow breathing) and emotional symptoms (mood swings, frustration, sadness) which can lead to behavioral changes (withdrawal).

4. Consequences

Chronic stress can lead to headaches, fatigue, weakened immune function, anxiety disorders, depression, and other mental heath issues. Physical symptoms can reinforce emotional stress, trapping people in a cycle of stress.

Stress can manifest in physical and emotional ways. Just as Massage supports physical activities allowing for better results from our efforts, Reiki supports our emotional activities resulting in better health outcomes overall.

Breaking the Cycle

  • Awareness and Acknowledgment: Recognizing stressors and understanding one’s response can help break the cycle.

  • Healthy Coping Strategies: Engaging in mindfulness practices, exercise, relaxation techniques, and seeking support can mitigate stress.

  • Professional Help: Therapy or counseling can provide tools to manage stress effectively.

Benefits of Reiki.

Release Anxiety, Stress & Tension

Reiki promotes a deep state of relaxation, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. This relaxation can enhance overall well-being and improve mental clarity.

Improved Sleep

By promoting relaxation and reducing stress, Reiki can help improve sleep quality.

Lower Cortisol Levels

The cycle of stress is driven by the “stress hormone” called Cortisol. Increased levels are detrimental to the body.

Lessen Physical Pain

With its ability to induce relaxation and balance the body's energy, Reiki can lead to improved pain perception. Many people report reduced pain levels after Reiki sessions.

Promote Emotional Healing

Reiki can assist in processing emotions and can provide support during emotional upheaval or trauma and major life transitions.

Reset the Nervous System

Our body holds onto patterns, both physical and emotional. Reiki can help to reset the Nervous System so it can let go.

Improved Immune Response

Some studies suggest that Reiki may enhance the body's immune response likely due to reduced stress and deep relaxation which allow the body to “rest and digest”.

Restore Balance

Dissolve energy blockages to restore a balance between Mind, Body and Spirit promoting Harmony within.

Complement Treatments

Reiki can be used alongside conventional medical treatments to help alleviate side effects and promote a sense of well-being.

Our Reiki Practitioners

  • Paula Kirk has been a Reiki Master/Practitioner since 1998.  Her practice combines traditional Usui Reiki with Lightarian Reiki, which calls upon the energy of Ascended Master Buddha, to promote deep relaxation, emotional balance, and mental/spiritual clarity.

Using intuition, guidance, and any requests for areas of focus, Paula uses gentle touch, as well as “off the body” work for some areas.  She focuses mainly on balancing the flow of energy through the chakras (energy centers) and aura, but may address other areas that seem to “call” for  attention.

After a Reiki session with Paula, most clients feel relaxed, refreshed, and a bit lighter. Paula is happy to answer questions or discuss her observations during or after your session, to ensure you get the most benefit from the experience.

Paula offers 30 and 60 minute Reiki sessions, as well as a 30 minute Reiki add-on for 60 minute massages.

  • Nicole practices the Usui system, founded by Dr. Mikao Usui in the 19th century. She was trained and attuned by Denise Cucalon. A typical session starts by checking in verbally and seeing what the client needs and how they are feeling walking in the door. The client will then lay down on the table and she will begin with a hands-off scan of the energy field to determine where any imbalances or needs arise.

To start she will either hover or gently lay hands on the body and energy centers to channel the energy into those places. At the conclusion, she seals the energy and clears both the client’s and her own energy fields. Clients are invited to debrief with her privately if they desire.

  • Rachel practices Usui Reiki, the original traditional form of Reiki taught by Mikao Usui. During a session she generally uses a hovering method but often incorporates light touch, using universal energy and sigils,  to help bring balance and healing to the client.

Rachel will smudge before a session and sometimes clears the client’s auric field with healing vibrations from a Himalayan bowl. Often during a session she will incorporate crystals.

Reiki can help a client realign their energy body to aid in general wellbeing in mind, body, and spirit. It can help with relaxation, lessen anxiety/depression symptoms, stabilize mood,  aid in alleviating pain. Though reiki is not a substitution for medical treatment it is a beautifully effective complimentary treatment.

  • Leo is a Holy Fire Reiki Master Teacher. Holy Fire Reiki is a refined style of Reiki that is both gentle and powerful.  The major difference between Holy Fire and traditional Usui Reiki is the attunement process in which a practitioner receives access to working with the energy.

Leo spends time preparing the room before a reiki session by using reiki along with other techniques to clear any heavy and strong emotional energy to create a sacred environment to work with your energy field and chakra system.  Before a Reiki session, Leo will give you a brief explanation of the chakra system and do a verbal intake of what the client needs help with both physically and emotionally.

While you are on the table, Leo uses his intuition and energy feedback to show him where and how long to work in an area using a combination of hands on and hands hovering above positions.  He can share the feedback he receives during the session or discuss after your session.

As Leo uses reiki to clear and unblock your energy field, you may feel racing thoughts diminish and your nervous system reset from a state of fight or flight to a more calm and relaxed state of being.  A session with Leo can be a very powerful experience.

Popular Questions.

  • You might experience sensations such as warmth, heat, tingling, and coolness throughout various areas of body. It is also common for clients to experience rapid eye movement with their eyes closed, which is the same type of experience that happens when someone is dreaming. Additionally, you may experience certain emotions surfacing or start thinking about things you haven’t thought about in quite a while. It is also not uncommon for people NOT to feel anything but a sense of relaxation. This does not mean that the reiki is not working.

  • Yes, Reiki is considered safe for most people, including children, the elderly, and animals. It is a non-invasive, gentle, and natural healing method that is often used to complement medical treatments without interfering with them. While serious side effects are not a concern, some individuals may experience temporary and minor effects like mild tiredness or a temporary intensification of symptoms, which are usually seen as a positive sign of the body's healing response.

  • The reiki practitioner connects to the reiki source energy through their crown chakra.  The reiki energy flows into the practitioner's energy body and the practitioner delivers the reiki energy by transferring from their hands by touch or hovering over an area on the body of the recipient.  The reiki is an intelligent energy and will adjust the flow to the right amount that is needed. The reiki energy works on a physical and emotional level with the recipient and encourages the body's own natural healing abilities.
